“Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty warrior. His father was Gilead; his mother was a prostitute.” Judges 11:1 NIV
“Jephthah said to them, “Didnʼt you hate me and drive me from my fatherʼs house? Why do you come to me now, when youʼre in trouble?” The elders of Gilead said to him, “Nevertheless, we are turning to you now; come with us to fight the Ammonites, and you will be head over all of us who live in Gilead.””
Judges 11:7-8 NIV
“…Likewise, whatever the Lord our God has given us, we will possess.” Judges 11:24 NIV
Japhthah had been driven away from his father’s house because his mother was a prostitute. But soon enough an opportunity for promotion presented itself. Japhthah overcame every feeling of vengeance, bitterness and unforgiveness, so that he could grab the opportunity to become the leader over the people of Gilead.
There can many reasons why we don’t take possession of some promises of God. For Japhthah, it could have been bitterness or offenses. For some, it could be lack of motivation or laziness or complacency.
Today, We ask the Lord for the strength to appropriate every blessing He has given us. As the Lord blesses us and elevates us, we pray that we will not rest on our oars. We pray that we will not leave any blessing untapped. We commit to take advantage of all the resources available to us – all that God has given us, we will possess.
Japhthah faced war from a foreign army, but this did not deter him from pursuing his God given destiny. He fought to receive what had been promised, and God gave home victory.
We take on the mindset of a champion and declare that “we will possess all that God has given us”. In the name of Jesus
