They were completely amazed. “How can this be?” they exclaimed. “These people are all from Galilee. Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language (Acts 2: 7-8)
This was the response of God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven who were staying in Jerusalem during Pentecost when they heard the disciples declaring the wonders of God in their own tongues. The disciples were unschooled, ordinary people who were not experts in their own language which made them incapable of carrying out the great commission.
Knowing the indispensability of the Holy Ghost, Jesus charged the disciples – “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 1: 4-5).
And when the Holy Spirit came and filled them, He broke through every educational, cultural, geographical and socioeconomic barrier which hindered their calling and office. In one moment and one place, the disciples were able to reach God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven! He increased the size of the church from 120 to 3000 in one day.
When the Holy Spirit fills us , we will be empowered to speak boldly the word of God, and it will manifest in every area of our lives. Even timid people will be emboldened and strengthened by the Spirit. The Spirit brings increase and growth, and the Spirit quickens dead situations.
This is a typical and yet supernatural, barrier and protocol breaking manifestation of the Holy Ghost. It takes us beyond the baptism of repentance (dos and don’ts) into the victorious Spirit-led life, which is a gift of our Heavenly Father for every child of God and not pastors or ministers only. “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people …”Acts 1:17.
We pray that the Holy Spirit will fill us and empower us irrespective of our professions or occupations. Though David was not a priest, because of the Holy Ghost in him, he prophesied more about Jesus and Judas than probably all the prophets except Isaiah. Even Stephen, who was serving tables was a man full of God’s grace and power, and performed great wonders and signs among the people. Daniel was administrator, yet he was able to interpret dreams which opened greater doors for him. No matter your profession or calling, the Holy Ghost can take you far beyond your imagination through His gifts and offices. Now eagerly desire the greater gifts and people will exclaimed (about you) “How can this be?”
Now receive the Holy Ghost and His barrier and protocol breaking anointing in Jesus’ Name!
