She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Today, we declare that Jesus is Lord and Messiah over our lives. Therefore, we seek counsel from His presence and we listen for his voice to direct us, to guide us to victory and success, and to restrain us from undesirable things. We listen to God through His written word and through the Holy Spirit who lives in us. The Holy Spirit speaks to us through our inner voice, and we need to train ourselves to listen and obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit. If we listen, we will be able to take advantage of an incoming blessing, and we will also be able to avoid impending evil.
Today, we pray that anything that distracts us from hearing the voice of the Lord will be removed from our path. We pray that we would have the faith to follow our inner voice and not second guess ourselves. We pray that the cares of this live would not draw us away from God’s word as it happened in the life of Martha. Lord we desire you, we commit to listen for your voice and obey it. Where we are conflicted and confused, we pray that there would be clarity from the Holy Spirit. We pray that our hearts would accept sound counsel from your Spirit. Lord help us not to ignore warning signs and “alarm bells” ringing in our spirit.
You are Lord and Messiah over our lives, lead us into all truth and guide our feet away from all evil.
